Kids v Cancer Supports the “Creating Hope Act of 2011”  -‐-‐  A Mother’s Effort t0 Encourage Drug Development for Pediatric Rare Diseases After the Death of her Son from Brain Cancer

Washington, DC (March17, 2011) Kids v Cancer applauds Senators Robert Casey   (D-‐PA), Scott Brown (R-‐ MA), Sherrod Brown (D-‐OH), Al Franken (D-‐MN) and John Isakson (R-‐GA) for their dedication to curing childhood diseases and supporting the bipartisan “Creating Hope Act of 2011.”

Nancy Goodman, Founder and Executive Director of Kids v Cancer explained:

“My son, Jacob, was a typical eight year old boy. He loved basketball, rock music and his little brother. Jacob started having morning headaches and nausea. The symptoms would not go away. Finally, one Monday morning, our pediatrician sent us to a neurologist who ordered an MRI. Jacob was diagnosed with brain cancer. The next day Jacob had brain surgery.”

“Two weeks after Jacob’s diagnosis, doctors gave him a round of  chemotherapy. Jacob’s brain cancer did not respond. Yet  Jacob’s doctors continue to use this chemotherapy for  nine months. Why? Simple:  because that’s all they had. In the last 30 years, no new drugs have been introduced to treat Jacob’s form of brain cancer.”
