Dear friends:
In this time of political uncertainty, we are once again facing the risk that the Creating Hope Act will expire at the end of this year.
Let your voice be heard. Â Please join us in asking Congress to reauthorize the Creating Hope Act Pediatric PRV on a permanent basis as part of the 21st Century Cures bill.
It just takes two minutes to write your Senators and Representative HERE.
In addition, please sign our organization sign-on letter to Congress HERE.
Finally, please forward this email to others who would like to ask Congress to support kids with cancer.
What is the Creating Hope Act Pediatric PRV?:  The Creating Hope ActPediatric PRV has been wildly successful.  It has created almost $1 billion in R&D incentives for drugs for children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.  Pursuant to the Creating Hope Act, companies that develop drugs for kids with cancer and other life threatening illnesses receive a voucher from the FDA.  With that voucher, future drugs, for example blockbuster drugs, can receive faster FDA review, constituting a real financial benefit to the company.  The vouchers are transferable and the last voucher sold for $350 million.
Why do we ask for a permanent program?: Â Drug development is a lengthy process and to support the commercialization of great bench science for children with cancer, our scientists need at least 10 years of certainty that a Creating Hope Act Pediatric PRV program will be in place. For that reason, we are asking for a permanent reauthorization of the Creating Hope Act Pediatric PRV.
What else is in 21st Century Cures?: The 21st Century Cures bill (HR 6) would also support increased NIH funding and support two exciting Cancer Moonshot pediatric cancer studies in fusion oncoproteins for childhood cancers and immunogenomics and immunotargets for childhood cancers.
Thank you,
Nancy Goodman and the Kids v Cancer Team
